After years of research, you've found the entrance to Goblin Mountain, and now more gold and jewels lie before you than you can possibly imagine. Oh yes, the mountain is full of goblins too, and they won't let you take their treasures without a fight, but that's never stopped a true adventurer before, has it?

How far and how much gold can you get?

Use joystick or WASD+shift to move and fight.

Features:

- Unlimited random rooms, generated in random order from templates with random items, with increasingly numerous and dangerous goblins (up to 6 enemies per room/level).

- Combat system uses attack (shield) and defence (sword) abilities (yours and your opponent's) to calculate damage.

- Enemies use hunt / random walk

Notes

The VIC-20 was my first Commodore computer in the 80s, and even though I later fell in love with its big brother, the C64, this 3.5 kilobyte home computer is my first crush.

Unable to create a fully functional game with it when I was a kid, I decided to try to make that dream come true now, by making a roguelike game (or rather a "roguish"-like game - with permanent death, generative-enough, more or less unlimited) - and choosing to target my VIC-20 version - the standard, unexpanded model.

It wasn't easy (I tried to include everything I could, and I know there are many little things that could have been better), but it was fun and rewarding.

I cheated a bit because this game requires a floppy disk (it is released as a d64 for this reason) - a device I only had when I got a C64. I hope my young self will forgive me (well, it does :-) ) and I hope you will enjoy this little project.

Thanks in advance for playing.

By the way: this game was written in C (I mean, sort of, C used as a layer - so with globals, functions without params and so on) and a bit of ASM with Oscar64.

If you're curious, here there's my GitHub repo with the source code (MIT licence).

Do the swords do anything?

yes - but enemies have health and attack and defence too - so to kill them you need to hit them more than once (I mean literally click+click+click). Increasing your attack level (swords) is something you should do - because at each new level goblins are harder to kill.

(+1)

and - uh - maybe this is the problem - you need to move against your opponent while you press fire - move toward AND press fire

thanks

:-)
